All.
It would appear that the tachometer problems are related to the
wiring to the instrument cluster.
Do all the cars have *seemingly* very short wires to the instrument
cluster. Last time I took the pod out it took many many attempts to
get it back in whilst simultaneously managing to connect the speedo.
I suppose it may be another quirk of the early cars, but I would be
very happy to pay for a way to connect run some type of connector
block so that the existing connection would be made under the dash.
This would make future diagnostics so much easier, as it would be
possible to measure voltages at the new connection point. Removal of
the cluster wouldn't be required, and when it was necessary (bulb
replacement etc) refit would be much easier.
Any thoughts? Can you buy a similar style connector block anywhere,
or would the additional wiring cause instrument misread?
On a similar note, an this may be obvious but I'd like to check...
I will probably want to test continuity between the tachometer signal
cable from the fuse bay to the front of the car. The wires in the
fuse bay *appear* to be simply wound together and then electrically
taped. Is there a better/more modern way of doing this.
Thanks to all
