All,
My D's latest ill appears to be a leaky gearbox seal. I can smell hot
gear oil when I pull up particularly after heavy clutch usage.
I suspect the seal in the gearbox is leaking oil onto the clutch, hence
the smell and prior (now much reduced) clutch slipping problems. I have
drops of oil on my drive which smell gearboxy too.
Can the seal be replaced without dismantling the entire gear box?
Has anyone done it - without removing the entire engine?
I'm going to struggle getting the box out on ramps myself, I think I
need to take it to a clutch type centre, but I don't want garages
running shy because it's a DeLorean, or charging silly money for what
should be a standard procedure.....
Any advice folks???
Rich H
