Hi Chris, Count me in on this one... for Smokey (69th car produced) to go round the test track again nearly 25 years since she first went round, would be a dream come true, it would really make me feel connected to the whole De Lorean history..... are we going to have trouble with the DOA again though, for being at the factory/track before 2006?.. for there big do..... anyway..... the best of luck... Smokey and I are behind ya!! It¡¦s OK for us lucky few who have visited the track and driven our own cars around it, but as the average age of our members constantly reduces and many of these new, younger members struggle to buy ¡§Their¡¨ first DeLorean car, I worry that the track will one day be re-developed. I have received a constant trickle of emails from younger members on this subject. I believe that one of the ways we can contribute to its preservation, is to use it more, raise its public profile. When I suggested having a meeting there last November, some comments were made about the importance of not ¡§over-using¡¨ it and diminishing the impact of the 4/5 yearly ¡§Eurofest¡¨. Well, I think the time has come to re-consider this position. Now we have a new, young, keen, regional organisation going in Ireland / Northern Ireland, I think we should seriously consider having a mini ( cheap) meeting in Northern Ireland before 2006. Get loads of press interest and use the event as good publicity to try and ensure the preservation of the track. What are your views list? They assured me that no plans had been submitted with them for approval, which would be a requirement before redevelopment. They are presently undertaking a Study to amend their Local Zoning Plans. As the Factory seems to be still "Public Land" I suggested they could zone the Test Track area as a site of "Industrial Heritage" worthy of conservation. I flicked through a PowerPoint presentation suggesting opportunities we saw for future use of this area (Tourism, N.Ireland Classic Car Shows, Local Public Recreation Park, Wildlife habit, and occasional use of Test Track for DeLorean days!). They were very open, co-operative, and suggested ways in which our views could be submitted to Government to preserve the Track for future generations. It is essential our local Owners keep an eye on the newspapers and Plan.Depts web-site for any possible development encroachment. I'm looking forward to our "Mini-Meet" at a Classic Car Show in N.Ireland on Saturday, before I zap back to HongKong. Cheers, IAN FOSTER ************************** > > From: dmcjohn@xxxxxxxxxxx > Date: 2004/07/02 Fri AM 02:15:22 GMT+08:00 > To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [DML] Re: Eurofest 2006 > > Not sure if Martin has more accurate news on this, but my friend was > at the factory 2 weeks ago and saw a lot of construction going on.
