Hi Mike. I just bought a De Lorean myself from the states and felt just like you. We found a mechanic in their local area who inspected it for us which helped greatly. He even knew the history of the car, and who used to own it, which was great because it backed up the owners claims. We found him by looking on www.mapsonus.com and simply typing in the address.
Now I can have my own signature hehe!

Ive always been interested in deloreans since '81 and i am now in 
the fortunate position to be able to afford one....looking at it 
even more so from the US especially with the exchange rate being as 
it is. Your web site is great and gives a non complicated answer to 
the import 'hassles'. Im looking a a few cars at the mo some on the 
ever popular ebay ( ive been a member on here for three years 
myself ) and think ive found the one in particular, with a good 
seller feedback whos impored abroad from the US does any one have 
any useful sugestions of what to look out for when buying 
a 'unlooked' at car......something that i am finding hard to part 
with my well earned cash without actually looking at it !
