Paul, 95% of cars "out there" are running with standard relays and
(should be) running a decent jumper-wire set. If it's peace of mind
you're looking for, by all means invest in a fan fix. But they're
nothing more than a big relay in a box. Keep the connections in the
relay bases clean, and perhaps replace the fan relay. I tested out the
current draw in my own car and it came in at 15A startup per fan and 8A
continuous. This is well within the spec of a standard DIN relay, IMO
the only issue is how clean the connectors on the relay base are, and
make sure you have a decent set of jumper wires and an eyelet type
circuit breaker.
Most of these "fixes" involve a plug-in "solution", although I have
heard glowing reports on Toby's fans and I'll happily add weight to his
expertise as a bona fide engineer. His stuff isn't just knocked up to
fill a gap in the market.
