Switching the engine off would have been the thing to do, just do it on a straightish bit of road, let the engine die, knock into neutral, then pull over. The steering lock coming on would have been my fear. It's no worse than driving a big car like a Jag when the engine unexpectedly stops. Mine did when down south with you Martin, when we did that Talk. No drama, knock it into neutral, try and start it again (at 70 MPH) if not drift onto the hard shoulder. The man was a drama queen!
