I did Cornwall to Essex, a little over 300 miles, without filling
up. I had the petrol light on by the end (thankfully, mine works!).
That included a section on the M5 where I did 120mph for a dozen
miles or so. I think I managed it because of a very long stretch on
the M4 with lots of traffic, so I couldn't go above 50-60mph.
Having said that, for some reason it seems to make surprisingly
little difference to fuel economy whether I go at 70mph or 100mph. I
guess it's to do with the silly long gears.
Also worth noting that having the cat taken off made a HUGE
difference to economy. I wasn't expecting it to be noticeable. I
drive it a lot, but I think that thing will pay for itself in a year
or so from the money saved on petrol.
