"Plasticote Satin black and plasticote metal primer."
Absolutely these must be primed, and only the side ones are ally, the 
top one is stainless. This was a job I did on my own car when it arrived 
in 2001 and now 15,000 miles ago. The only chips in the paint are 1) 
where I dropped a screwdriver on it 5 minutes after re-fitting them 
(grr) and 2) a couple of stone chips at the top centre.
