Hi
When i first got my car i had this all too common Delo problem with
fuel pump noise especially when the tank was below half full, i can
count at LEAST a dozen times i had to take off the fuel pump cover,
disconnected the fuel pump and checked the 'question marked' shaped
pic up hose in whatever fuel was left in the tank, i even replaced
this hose with a NOS one SAME noise, put in the 'spring fix' still
noisy and time after time getting more piss#d off when the noise came
back. It was only when i finally got rid of this 'Heath Robinson'
arrangement of the OEM pick up hose and baffle and replaced it with
one from 'Special T' in the US that my problem has not come back.
>From a lot of people i e mailed with over this item  ALL have had
positive results, mine i have had fitted for 7 months now . I note
Special T now have a newer pick up filter which basically keeps the
filter mesh in a more oval cross section by the use of an internal
mesh arrangement inside, whereas the OEM filter ends up looking like
a pancake with very little surface area to actually draw fuel up,
this maintains it shape and hence the correct flow rate through it.
The only thing negative i could ever find on it was that the baffle
and filter is not now directly in the centre of the petrol tank, i
dont see this as being importantant unless you drive around all the
time with £5 worth of fuel up steep hills :) ... but im sure that my
post will open up peoples other views on this....:)
Taking the pump in and out for future maintainence is a breeze the
baffle, also in my opinion retains the fuel better due to less holes
in it .
One more thing, on the black flexi hoses that 'loop' round off the
pump and then connect onto the metal lines, check these are not
pressing or rubbing against the back of the removable cover, again
this connection is a source of noise transmission, on my car i stuck
some foam pads on the back of this cover.
