If a fiesta cost you that much to run...

A) Find a better garage
B) get a french or german diesel this time around. One of the older ones 
that's all mechanical (eg any of the Peugeot/Citroen XUD's - Xantia, 
405, 306, ZX). Apart from the glowplugs (which only work on cold 
startup) there's only a solenoid valve which has one wire going to it. 
There isn't even an electric fuel pump!
