It could also be that the name has changed over the years. Vowels 
tend to disappear...
So you should also look for words that are closely similar, 
like "loren" and "loran", and 
also "lorene", "loreane", "lorana", "loreana"

This might also be part of the car's LORE??? :)

Best bet is to ask a Frenchman/Romanian if there's any similar words 
in their language which might explain "LOREAN". As someone suggested, 
it may have something to do with a place-name and/or job.

I've also heard somewhere that JZDs name originally was Delorean 
straight forward, but that he changed it to De Lorean to make it 
sound more "classy".
