I wouldnt advise putting a small 12v battery in parallel as you
*could* effectively be charging the battery from the car battery!
(especially whilst the car is running) and in worse case scenario this
could cause the battery to explode and make your car catch fire. Yes
this is worst case and probably wouldnt happen with day to day use but
still not a good outcome.

You could build yourself an inline circuit with some simple gates that
would stop the flow of the car battery to your small 12v battery, yet
still allowing your 12v "backup battery" to feed supply to your alarm.
Actually you could do it with a couple of diodes/caapcitors..
