We were lucky, in that although we have a modern house, the garage was
obviously built with a DeLorean in mind as we can get the car in and
open the door and have a bit of space down the other side plus room
for a work bench.  Our garage is about 8ft 5" wide and approx 16ft
long.  Ours has a front to back pitched roof which as we've boarded it
out also gives us storage in the loft too.
