501 PROJECT: UPDATE
Dear members of the Delorean owners club,
The proposed film project '501' is now reaching the final month of
pre-production. As I am sure you can appreciate this is an extremely
busy period for us, not least because of the vast amount of technical
and logistical problems that arise when trying to schedule such a
complex film shoot. For this reason it is necessary for us to confirm
the attendance of those members who wish to take part in our 'BELFAST
DMC CAR PLANT' sequence, as soon as possible. Obviously this is very
much reliant on the availability of yourselves (and of course your
cars!) on a specific day or day[s]? and despite our desire to remain
as flexible as possible, we are limited as a group by location and
equipment restrictions.
At the present time we have two options available to us; firstly we
can arrange to shoot the sequence on SATURDAY 3rd MAY 2003 between the
hours of 9:00am (2 hour prep-time to begin shooting at 11:00am) till
2:00pm approximately. Alternatively we could apply the same working
time-frame to SUNDAY 4th MAY 2003. Whether we shoot on the SATURDAY or
the SUNDAY is entirely down to your availability and which ever is the
easiest for the majority of you. It is worth noting that the following
MONDAY 5th MAY 2003 is in fact a BANK HOLIDAY; so for those of you who
dread going to work on a Monday morning, it will mean you will get a
very pleasant lie-in! - with the added bonus of just having your cars
feature in a short film; what could be better! Be that as it may, I
will await your response in order to make an appropriate judgement
regarding which day is best to shoot.
There are also several other important points that should be noted. A
member by the name of Phil Peters has recently contacted me regarding
possible arrangements for the weekend we propose to film. Since Mr.
Peters lives in the WOLVERHAMPTON area and is situated within a short
distance of the intended shooting location of DUNSTAL HILL TRADING
ESTATE, it makes perfect sense that some form of pre and / or post
gathering of D.O.C members and their cars could be arranged; adding to
the ease and enjoyment of the weekend. I will be initiating contact
with Mr. Peters shortly in order to discuss this proposal further,
however in the mean time please either forward you comments regarding
this idea to myself or Mr. Phil Peters directly.
It is our belief that filming should only take one day to complete,
however if you would prefer to extend this gathering into a longer
event, we have absolutely NO objections - we want you to get as much
out of this weekend as we do! Therefore if you can make suitable
independent arrangements (including accommodation etc.) then it will
be possible for us to allow you all to have additional access to the
private trading estate on either the SATURDAY or the SUNDAY, before or
after the shooting day. In this way one day will be a gathering of
cars for filming, the next will be for whatever you like (within
reason!) or vice versa.
I would be extremely grateful if those of you who are interested in
taking part, could PLEASE EMAIL ME outlining their personal
availability. Of course if you are available for the entire weekend
then please also include this information, as it will still assist in
our decision regarding which day to shoot. Once a decision has been
made everyone will be informed via a 501 PROJECT UPDATE. I look
forward to hearing from you shortly.

For your information I have included a copy of the previous formal
request letter posted onto the D.O.C web group. It helps outline in
much more detail our intentions for the shoot and what we specifically
require from yourselves. If you require more information or would like
to see a copy of the latest script, production pack and / or group
CV's, then please contact me and I will email a copy to you. Thank-you
for your continued help and support.

ROOM 501 PROJECT: PREVIOUS FORMAL REQUEST
Dear members of the Delorean owners club,
This is a notice regarding the proposed film project ROOM 501. For
those of you who do not know who I am, my name is Ben Hopkins and I am
the producer for the upcoming film for the Surrey Institute of Art &
Design. The film is a graduate production and represents the sum total
of three years training by industry professionals. Pre-production
plans for the production are going extremely well and some fantastic
locations have been secured. I am writing to you specifically
regarding an opportunity for you to have your cars filmed in this
production. The required shoot date is set to be either SATURDAY 3rd
MAY 2003 or SUNDAY 4th MAY 2003; depending on your availability. The
venue will be Dunstal Hill Trading estate in Wolverhampton.
I have conducted a presentation to some members of your group at a
members meeting in Bath courtesy of the invitation and hospitality of
Stephen Strelczak. The proposal was met with great enthusiasm and it
gave me a clear idea of the benefits that this opportunity can provide
for your organisation and ourselves. I propose that the event can act
as one of your organisations collective meetings. I have organised
access to two warehousing units on the same trading estate. The first
will be allocated for the recreation of the Belfast D.M.C. car plant.
The second will be reserved for yourselves in order for you to conduct
your meet. Light refreshments such as tea, coffee, sandwiches and
other light snacks will be provided. For those of you with a more
hearty appetite there is a McDonalds restaurant a few hundreds yards
from the estate and the city centre is only a quarter of a mile away.
I have also organised for a cameraman to be available with a digital
video camera. This camera operator will be specifically reserved for
the filming of your cars to provide a short, edited film to act as a
souvenir of your day and to promote your cars.
It is hoped that this day will be enjoyable for all those involved but
there are serious intentions concerning the objectives that we must
fulfil in order for the film to be a success. Our group will arrive in
Wolverhampton on FRIDAY 2nd MAY 2003. We will be setting up the scene
that evening and early SATURDAY / SUNDAY morning. If we are to succeed
in accomplishing our shooting schedule for that day we request that
those wishing to partake arrive at the location at 9:00am If we can
start promptly with your vehicles in place, shooting can commence by
11:00am and carry on until 14:00pm. This will then allow you to take
advantage of the second warehouses facilities for storing your
vehicles and doing whatever you wish with the remainder of the day (of
course the second warehouse will be open for shelter and refreshments
for the entire duration). The trading estate will be almost totally
empty during our visit providing a lot of space to drive around. It is
also cut off from other traffic and pedestrians, which should allow
for an uninterrupted day for all.
This request is a genuine call for help. We understand that the
distances travelled for some may be considerable but I would hope that
the experience will be in return worth the investment of your time and
effort. The budget that we have is derived from the incomes supplied
by part time jobs. We have saved a considerable amount compared to the
budgets of our peers because we believe that the sacrifice is worth
the potential gains. This film is the last opportunity for us to take
advantage of the reputation of the Surrey Institute of Art & Design.
While still within this institution we can get huge discounts on
professional film, sound, lighting and editing equipment. We can also
use the instituteís contacts with casting agencies to obtain a
professional cast of actors. Once outside of the university we will be
required to pay industry rates, which is totally unrealistic
considering our personal incomes.
If the film is a success it can be released on the national festival
circuit and this may develop enough interest for the project to be
developed further in to feature film proposal. This film therefore
acts as a 'double whammy'. Firstly it acts as a self-contained drama
documentary and short film. Secondly it represents a pilot trailer for
a potentially bigger project to be developed professionally. Both
these things can help bring the story of John Delorean to a bigger
audience and create positive publicity.
If there is a concern that the day may not provide enough private time
for your group I can organise the access to the warehouses to be
extended until the Sunday. That would require those whom wished to
stay, spending the night in the Midlands under their own steam. I am
from the area myself and could offer advice on affordable accommodations.
Thank you for spending the time considering this proposal. Contact
numbers can be found at the top of this letter and may be used to
direct any concerns that you may have directly to us. Please continue
to check your mail for updates regarding the projects development.
For those who are definitely interested please email or call A.S.A.P.
The more time I have to organise, the better I can make the event for
all.
Kind Regards,
Benjamin Hopkins [Producer]
