Electrical problems

Hi all,

I've been away the last few days but I got back today and took Hana out with the intention of finding this burning smell. 

Found it.

Under the dash is a small metal panel (not fixed) in a diamond shape. Relay at one end. Box in the middle and funny looking black box with a "grille" on it at the other. It's a good six inches long and 3 wide. Two wires feed to a nut on one side and both have melted right back to the core.. one has even melted the core.

Any idea what this panel is and what is serves? I have to take the loom back some distance before I can rewire....
