Stian,

You need a decant, skilled mechanic, who is used to working on exhaust
systems. Any heavy handed work will result in broken studs, that could mean
removing the heads or ass one member did, the entire engine.

A skilled man, knows how to get the studs out, by heating up etc. There are
some spare tapped holes that can be used if necessary. Some people increase
the size from the very thin 7mm it 8 or more, but head removal is normally
required. Cast iron does goes rusty, if the gaskets are not blowing , I
wouldn't worry about it personally.

I have discovered that the exhaust manifolds, LH and RH side, are very
rusty. Now, that happens to every automobile that I know of.

But - what worries me is when the time comes and I have to change the
gaskets. It looks like the original fasteners of the manifolds (studs?) have
rusted to an extent that they will be impossible to remove without screwing
up the aluminum block!
