I used a company called Bax global to ship my DeLorean over. They charged
about 1000GBP for a California to Thames port run in a closed container. The
ship has to go via the Panama canal. I'd guess that it would cost less from
Newark as it is just an Atlantic crossing. You need to give them the US
title document and bill of sale as they liase with US and UK Customs. I have
a friend at Bax Global called Ingrid Allam who arranges shipping and I can
send you her email if you like.

Chris Spratt has also recently imported a DeLorean using another importer.

You also need to tell the importer and UK Customs that a DeLorean is
considered a collector's item by the C&E Classification Section appropriate
to commodity code 9705000000. Imported items under this code attract a nil
rate of duty and a VAT rate of 5%. Otherwise they will charge full car
import duty.

Once in the UK you can drive the car on US plates for a month or so,
providing you insure it. Change the headlights, rewire the rear lights and
add a fog light for an MoT pass. Get the import forms from DVLA or the local
Vehicle Reg Office and make sure they know it is a private import. As you
have two I'd put one in someone else's name or they might get jobsworth on
you. That means two bill of sales, two import docs etc.

Subject: DeLorean shippers from the US to the UK?

I have just purchased two mint (never driven) DeLoreans in the US. 
(The last 1981 and the first 1982 model).

Does anyone have experience with a car shipper from the US to the UK 
that you would recomend? Also what type of prices did it cost. The 
cars would be shipped out of Newark New Jersey.

Any recomendations would be appreciated.
