Now we are faced with proving it's worth to the insurance adjuster.
This has been a very emotional event that only other owners would understand, so please refrain from any hindsight is 20/20 type remarks, but we do hope for some help.
1981 Delorean, automatic, 39,990 mileage
No dings, scratches, pristine
Daily driver condition
The insurance company may likely lowball. We have been told to bring proof of recent sales of equivalent Deloreans. If anyone has access to recent sales, we would be forever grateful. The car was not appraised yet, but was in daily driver condition with a pristine body. We hope to salvage what we can of the front end.
It ran great, working everything. Only the stereo was changed out. The leather was beautiful. Even the mats. Everything had been cleaned inside and out on the vehicle. Cannot tell you the hundreds of manhours. He would never sell the car, so receipts were in the car or thrown away. It is not our best choice in retrospect, but we knew it's value to us had no monetary number, so it just didn't seem important.
Anyone have access to sales? We can't use current selling prices, sales must be complete. I've already hit up the ebay auctions sold listings.
Sincerest appreciation. He is heartbroken. He bought this car at age 21 and it was a big piece of his heart. They want to meet tomorrow Monday Jan 6. Hoping they give us a couple days for data collection.
