Maybe the INTERNAL heat is dissipated by the cooling system, but not the external heat generated by the exhaust system that is finely engineered completely around the Engine including cast iron exhaust manifolds a cross over pipe and the catalytic converter and not to mention the Muffler. With the venting from the engine cover COVERED on a hot 90 degree day..without the vents the heat is forced BACKWARDS to try to escape downwards into the areas where the external heat is being generated, which could overheat the same items above that are releasing heat..and the last thing you want is more heat in a fiberglass engine compartment..Ever notice the above average amounts of newer Fiberglass Ferrari's and Fiberglass Lamborghini's that are burning to a crisp from excess heat buildup in their engine compartments..Trust me if anything try to INCREASE the cooling air into the engine compaetment/getting the hot exhaust heat out of the engine compartment..the early mid 1980's Lotus Esprits had the right idea by putting a electric fan ON TOP of the engine cover to help dissipate the heat generated. That is, of course, while it operates and it only operates when the motor operates.Once the motor stops the heat builds up quickly. In one Lotus model they have a thermostatically controlled fan in the cover to help cool the motor. The heat ages everything in the engine bay quicker and in the carbureated Lotus versions it caused vapor lock. The first thing that will be affected by the excessive heat is the alternator. It will reduce it's output. > David Teitelbaum > > --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Nick Kemp <nkemp@> wrote: > > > > Experiment. I don't like the idea of water dripping right on the belts and corroding the A/C clutch.
