The virus or Trojan is most likely in your computer and is actually sending emails from your PC. They usually erase the sent folder so you can't tell that your computer has been hijacked. I suggest putting a dummy email address in your contact list. This would be a email address that would cause you to get a return from the mailer daemon service. Then if another virus attacks your pc you will be forewarned. I suggest starting the fake email address with the letter AA so it's the first one to go.
I would update your virus program and run it in full scan mode.
