Read the article. Buy a Battery Tender or something like it. For a really dead battery you should first charge it with something more powerful but an automatic charger is fine to "top off" a battery. If you do not use the car for a month you should put the charger on for at least 1 day or until the charger says the battery is fully charged. During the driving season I charge the battery in the car. The charger comes with a short harness and plug so you can hook it directly to the battery. Helps to prevent accidentally hooking it up wrong. In the winter I remove the battery and once a month I charge it for 1 day. I do not recommend leaving the charger hooked up constantly, even if it is on a timer, no matter if the battery is in the car or not. If you do not use the car a lot a Battery Master switch is a good idea so the battery doesn't go dead just sitting. Do not try "nursing" an old battery with a trickle charger. If the battery is over 5 years old replace it. Have the battery tested once a year.
