[DML] Battery Charger usage question

Hi everyone,
 
Quick question regarding the use of a battery charger in our cars: is it better to remove the battery from the car before charging it, or can you charge it while in the car? For example, could you connect one of the charger leads to the jump-start post in the engine compartment and the other to...? Engine block?
