My experiance is that the ground cluster near (up from) the accelerator
pedal is insufficient and as such, the dash readings may be off for
other reasons (my voltage was typically under 13). When I improved that
ground, the volt gauge read much higher. The actual voltage at the
alternator did not change but the dash reading did.
So even though you may concerned with low voltage as David T correctly
points out, there may be other issues.
To test how good your instrument cluster ground is, us a jumper cable to
jump from the ground cluster near your accelerator foot to the negative
terminal of the battery. Check your dash readings before and after.
