Bill wrote " Remember: if you lose that strap, you lose the entire car, " Oh so true ... and you do not need to physically loose the strap. * I drove the car about 3 miles...it ran fine * Turned it off and got back in a minute or so later * Went to restart... DEAD... no door lights, no radio, no starter, no key buzzer.... NOTHING.. Total darkness and silence * Had it pulled home (one of many times where the problem was poor ground) * A volt meter indicated lost ground * As soon as I loosened the ground bolt to the trailing arm the lights came back on. I re-tightened ... problem solved Sufficient corrosion had built up in the trailing arm bracket to halt the current flow to the entire electrical system. And that bolt was TIGHT! It is also interesting to note that the bolt with the ground strap is corroded and the others are not. There is some galvanic activity going on there. Again, some may benefit from rerouting and improving the ground bus. Others may not. It likely depends on your car, your environment (heat, humidity, road salt leftover from the winter, driving habits and a host of other factors).
