Integrity of the cabin or the doors or the glass means nothing. Integrity of the passengers in the cabin is all that matters. The whole point of modern automotive crashworhiness engineering is to manage the energy in a collision to slow the passenger compartment down as "gently" as possible, reducing the g-forces on the passengers. If that means breaking glass, bending hoods, collapsing fenders, dimpling the roof or bending the frame, then that is what is done. The energy dissipated during the deformation of those structures is what reduces the g-forces on the people in the car. Prior to Mercedes developing the progressive deformation technology in the 50's and 60's, the common knowledge was to make the car as strong as possible. The results were huge g-forces transmitted to the passengers, resulting in injuries and deaths, but perfect cabins. The only damage was the dents in the unpadded metal dashboards caused by passenger body parts. Don't look at what is left of the car. Look at what the data recorders in the crash test dummies says. -- Mike ________________________________ From: "cbl302@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" <cbl302@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tue, March 20, 2012 3:07:43 PM Subject: Re: [DML] The COMPLETE DeLorean crash test videos, report and more. Forgot This... Compare the Brickin crash test at 35mph to the Delorean crash test... http://www.bricklin.org/BI_CrashTest.htm Notice the Cabin was 100% untouched and the Doors were FULLY operational...as far as I remember even the windshield DID NOT crack.. Now which car would you rather be in in a Collision.. BTW..the Hood sustained NO damage and that Bricklin WAS repaired and put back to use Claude 1024 bric --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "cbl302@..." <cbl302@...> wrote: > > > > > > > This doesn't bear out Claude's flippant and inaccurate comment about the > > occupants being "DOA", as he posted earlier. > > Hey James...As for being "flippant and inaccurate comment about the > occupants being "DOA", > > In THAT particular Test(the 40mph test) they would have either been vegetables >or DOA..for lack of a secure door..Just look at how the door folded up like tin >foil..(along with the rest of the car..and SS is Waaay stronger than human >bones/flesh...Their internal organs would have been "compressing and distorting" >in the same fashion as the car was..their heads would have been fine..but their >brain(s) would have been shaking like jello in a bowl..not good if you plan on >living... > > > If those "were" real humans..they would have been goners..For one thing the Air >bags were way over-sized for such a small confined space..and if you look at how >the test dummies ended up..there was NO WAY they could have survived..
