As choices in alternative fuels grow, I believe taxation will go to miles
driven, not fuel or fuel types.

And you can bet your butt that as soon as something becomes a mainstream fuel,
it will be taxed. Just like gasoline.
It would not surprise me to see a requirement on electrics that you have a
separate meter in your garage that sells you road-taxed electricity.
