Why not bridge the two hoses at the heater core? They're very accessible there, and I'll need to remove the hoses there when I pull the heater core.

I *will* replace the heater core. I just need to get the car roadworthy so I can get the engine tuned up to pass smog. The CA DMV has been killing me with penalties.

5/8" heater hose ought to do it. Connect the two pipes together near the A/C bottle.

Or at the back of the engine but it's a lot more work (hard to access).

Please tell the guy you sell it to that you did that, and why.
