The exhaust system dumps into the left of the stock muffler.

The bulge is usually a sign of a failed or failing stock catalyst, in turn usually caused by over- fuelling. I've seen cars where things got so hot the epoxy was burnt off the frame in that spot.

Replace or get rid of the cat and the exhaust runs considerably cooler. No need to completely re-route it.

I will trade exhaust note for a non-melted rear fascia anyday (if you attend DCS'12, notice how many DeLoreans have a distinctive bulge in the middle of their rear fascia, right where the exhaust system dumps into the muffler).

Plus I can rotate my engine with a simple socket wrench.

And easily change my belts.

And tension my alternator without *TWO* brackets in the way.

And jump my otterstat if necessary without burning my fingers.

Etc.
