[DML] Re: Hotels, chats, DeLoreans

I was trying to lighten the mood (and there *IS* a brother and sisterhood of owners who have accidentally touched their cars' outer skin when they really shouldn't have, or at least there will be after DCS'12 in the bright Florida sunshine...).

When you get right down to it, DeLorean owners are like the poor people left treading water after the Titanic sank. We are all desperately trying to keep our heads above water. No owner is any better than another because every single one of us is just one telephone pole away from owning a gigantic piece of cracked plastic that even the recycling center won't accept.

My pet peeve is owners who look down their noses at owners of rolling restorations. There is an element of hypocrisy from the crowd that exhorts saving every possible DeLorean, then pats themselves on the back because their own cars are in such better condition. You can't have it both ways -- either every possible DeLorean is saved, which means a lot of rolling restorations, or only picture perfect DeLoreans are acceptable, which means lost and neglected vehicles will continue to languish.

Speaking of which: any owner who pats him or herself on the back for not owning a POS deludes him or herself -- by definition, if it rolled out the factory door in Dunmurry, it is a POS. Some DeLoreans are less shitty than others, but not a single one of them is an F-150.

In those forums, there is a sense of brotherhood which is greatly appreciated. The way people bash one another on this forum is really disappointing.

When one tries to give advice, same thing. Almost every topic, whether it is about the cool Florida show, or how best to fix a problem - turns into some kind of ugly, 'beer-muscles' type of argument, pissing contest, or just plain BS.

I think from now on, I'm going to physically meet people, at shows and conventions, what have you - instead of attempting anything here or elsewhere. Sometimes the 'old-fashioned' ways are best.
