Don't get too excited -- I've still got a 151 (GM's, not AMC's) under the hood. I have every intention of upgrading to a 258 one of these days, but there are a few other irons I've got to get out of my fire first. My current SR4 transmission will bolt up to a T4 bellhousing, so there shouldn't be any driveshaft issues.
As far as customization is concerned: the rocker panel trim is the giveaway. AMC never used that trim with the fluted pieces right above it (I transferred those over from a junkyard find). The rub strip is a aftermarket kit that unfortunately no longer is available (it's a really nice kit with aluminum channels and end caps, screwed on, not glued on). Chrome around the windows was transferred over from the junkyard car. Rain gutter trim is original.
I need to take a daytime pic of my spoiler (also transferred from the junkyard car). AMC used a remote solenoid to pop the hatchback. I drilled an access hole, just like a Javelin spoiler, so I can still use the tumbler.
How about those base model hubcaps, which actually are late 1970's vintage. I have a set of spoked hubcaps, but believe it or not I prefer the flying saucers.
