Regular will work in a D, but it depends in what country you live.
Over here in Europe regular is RON (Euro) 95.
While I had this D in the USA I noticed you have more "regular" versions.
I then also used 88 and 90 depending on availabilty when I beeded to fill up.

It seems the car doesn't really matter (if timing and mixture are properly set), but it also may depend on your driving style.
