I just thought I would mention since Justin didn't that I have a standard
oil drain plug with a hex head (17mm) in stainless $12.95, brass for $6.95
or magnetic for $12.95. Easy and simple with no special tool if they get
misplaced. These could be taken off with large pliers if you had to.

Subject: [DML] Re: manual transmission oil change
Last year, I changed my manual tranny fluid. I used Valvoline DuraBlend
(semi-synthetic) 80W-90. No problems at all in the past year...tranny
synchs well & no real difference in changing gears compared to what I think
was original.
A couple notes:
1) The fill & drain plugs are identical & have a 10mm square head on them,
requiring a "proper" tool which is a $20-$30 Snap-On or MATCO socket. A
good alternative since you will never use this tool socket for anything
else: GatorGrip. Got it @ Home Depot for about $12. It's the socket with
the pins in it that works on all different size bolts, wingnuts, etc.
Pretty good product & made in USA to boot!
2) Might want to consider taking the transmission end cap off & putting
Loctite on the 5th gear nut. When these loosen, they drill a hole in the
end cap. A little involved, but once you Loctite (red) it, you'll be
certain to not have this problem happen.
