Ah ha! Well, all of our little cars are different, so I just thought I'd
check...
Replacing the alternator/water-pump belt is easy enough. The tensioner
is connected to a stud with either an 11mm or 13mm nut, I forget which.
Loosen the nut until you can move the bracket (you may have to tap it
with a hammer to free it) to where the alternator will swing to the left
a bit. Then replace the belt and tension it by pulling the alternator as
far to the right as you can while tightening that nut. It helps to have
someone else underneath pushing the alternator, but it's not really
necessary.
An old mechanic once told me to run the engine for 15 minutes and then
check the belt again, because it may need re-tensioning. I've never had
to re-tighten mine, though I guess it never hurts to check before
hitting the road again.
