before tearing into the xmission check your shift lever cable adjustment. i had a similar slippage problem. I adjusted the cable at the cam and the problem went away.

Immediatly check the line pressure and the fluid level. If both are good as per the procedures in the Workshop Manual you are in trouble. If there was a lot of friction materiel in the pan you are also f-cked. If the line pressure is low you might only be looking at replacing the filter. Do not drive on a slipping transmission, it will only cost you more when you have to have it rebuilt. I have a procedure to disassemble and clean the filter and reuse it if you don't want to replace it.
