The manual mode could still be controlled by the shift computer so you can't shift into first above a certain speed for instance. Yes, I agree you could sell dozens, that's the problem, very small market for a lot of work that could never pay back. That is why if anyone does it at all it will probably be the simplest version, basically a replacement to duplicate the origonal shift computer. The supply of NOS is running out. At some point it will become a necessity to have a replacment just to keep the automatics going. In the meantime repair is the most effective option. BTW Elvis is correct in that they caps are filled with a liquid gell. It DOES dry out eventually so they have a finite lifetime in any case even if they didn't pop. BTW I have seen where they have popped and the transmission still shifted pretty well. IMHO it is the bad solder joints that are the biggest culprit but the caps look so bad you just can't not replace them too!
