[DML] Re: Title Problems

Dave,

I'm not looking for recourse or to place blame. As a person who has done thousands of dollars of business with John restoring other cars, I bought this one sight unseen from John, because of my great trust in him. John has done what he can to assist in finding a resolution to the situation, but we're both stuck with the same problem: We were dealing with a person who was dishonest, agreed to do title the car, took money to do it, and then ran off.

There is only one goal here, and that is to get this car back on the road. 

When I originally went to the DMV service station (in Wisconsin BTW) a couple years ago when this whole saga started, the person working the counter told me there was nothing they could do to help, that I needed to get the previous owner to title the car and sign it over to me. Today, I called the DOT headquarters figuring perhaps people there would know more, and spoke with someone else and evidently there is a process in place which may allow me to title the car, they are sending the information in the mail, so I will have to review that and see if that will work. They said they review each one on a case by case basis.

Otherwise I think my next move will be to try Jay's suggestion and go through Broadway Title. It would be $299 well spent if I can get this resolved and put it behind me.

I had contemplated looking for a car someone was parting out that had a clear title, buying the pontoon with the title and just re-building my car from that.. so anything less than that looks good to me.
