Although I didn't notice any evidence of it, perhaps mine was drilled all the way/modified to be a long solid pin that I just used a punch to get out. I guess it was too easy to be a stock DeLorean thing :)-----Dani B. #5003 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "Matthew" <matthew.spittle@...> wrote: > > I'm not certain this is correct. The pin does not protrude completely through the nut. Therefore, hammering on it will only push it further in (it can't come out the other side). > > You need to drill the *head* of the pin out, and then use a magnet, or tap on the nut to pull it out. The reason you need to drill the head is that it's been peened with a hammer (flattened). > > Good luck. > > Matt > #1604 > > > --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "stainlessilusion" <5n-@...> wrote: > > > > It's a pin you use a steel punch to hammer out. -----Dani B. #5003 > > > > --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, mike clemens <rmclemns@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > I've got an old steering rack that I'm rebuilding and have question that has me stumped. Starting on the outside you've got the tie rod ends, then the tie rod, then a large "nut" (for the lack of a better name) which connects the tie rod to the "steering drive bar". This "nut" is located under the boot on each side. How do you remove this nut? There is a pin of some sort inserted into the "nut" in the center of the groove of each one. They do not have a head on them for either a Phillips, Straight Slot, or Allen, so is this a tight fitting pin that needs to be drilled out or what? Any help would be appreciated. > > > > > > Mike TPS 1630 > > > > > > ------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnewsYahoo!
