[DML] Re: A/C troubles

I've never actually measured it but there is a temperature, probably about 35F, below which the system pressure will so low the compressor will never engage. A properly charged and running system will cycle very quickly at 50 degrees, and not at all at 90 (at engine idle, assuming the fan is on high and the doors are open).

To the original poster, what static pressure do you see in the system (with it not running), and what is the air temperature in your garage at the time you measured it?

When it is cold the pressures are lower (Boyle's Law) so if you are already low on refigerent when it's warm, trying to run the A/C in cold weather you may not have enough pressure. That said, it should run a little, just enough to dehumudify the cabin air and run the compressor just enough to wet the seals. A/C systems are best left untouched.
