Especially when going from a darker color to a lighter color you
should prime. It also helps to prevent any contamination from
affecting your topcoat and promotes adhesion. Go to the Duplicolor
website for more information. A trick I was shown is to hold the spray
can farther away then usual. The paint will dry before hitting the
part and give a textured finish mimicking the origional surface.
