The Lambda system is an emission system and part of the fuel injection. It controls the air/fuel ratio by using a feedback loop measuring the oxygen content of the motor's exhaust. The Lambda light is only a reminder to replace the O2 sensor at the recommended service interval. To test the light you can just connect the 2 wires together that go to the Lambda counter in the driver's footwell (either under the steering wheel or on the left side ahead of the hood release). I recomend you read section "D" in your Workshop Manual for more information specifically D:4:. BTW Lambda is an engineering term for the differential air/fuel ratio. It is signified by the Greek letter Lambda in equations. The Lambda light is NOT like the MIL light in modern cars, it is not even connected to the Lambda system. It is supposed to come on every 30,000 miles and then be reset after replacing the O2 sensor and adjusting the valves.
