Shannon, David is naturally right that it could be an impulse coil / ignition problem going from bad to dead instead of a fuel problem which I was addressing. The ignition coil can also do the same thing. If you have a DMM when this happens again you can unplug the wire from the rear firewall and see if there is any ohmage. Normally when they get hot they will be up somewhere around 700 ohms and cold at about 500 ohms. If you read nothing when hot then that is what it is. The wire inside over the years has stretched and when it cools down it shrinks down and touches again. The ignition coil reading from + to - is around .7 ohms or 1.7 ohms which ever one you have. To me it sounds like an impulse coil problem. The next time it happens you must test either the fuel system or the ignition system. If you have some Ether squirt a SMALL amount in and see if it runs. If it does then it's fuel and if it doesn't run then it's ignition. The other way to test would be to pull a spark plug wire and see if there is spark. No spark means an ignition system problem and very likely it is the impulse coil inside the distributer.
