You could buy one of these

and stick one on your Ilco copy. Of course, they come in sets of four
so you'd have three to spare. (Two if you have the early two-key
system.)

I for one don't use the original keys. Although they came with the
car, they are worn and slightly twisted and I don't wish to damage
them further. As Mark V says, blanks are still available.
