If the PCV side is plugged, you will get oil fumes going into
the "clean" side of the air filter since it has to go somewhere. This
is also a symptom of an engine with excessive blow-by, i.e. too much
combustion gases getting past the rings. You see this on engines with
a lot of internal wear, bad/cracked rings, broken piston.
