[DML] Farrar's distrubutor - theory.

I do have a possible suggestion here...
I have a Delorean distributor that started chewing up rotors, and
sometimes cracking caps.
It turns out some of the internal shims or something bent or melted and
the rotor got just a tiny bit high on one side, and consistently started
hitting one of the contacts in the distributor. In some cases the
rotors would disintegrate, in other cases it stripped out the plastic
key and would spin on the shaft, and in some cases it also would destroy
the cap. This happened with 6 rotors across 3 caps, yes from proper
vendors, before I finally figured it out.
If the rotor caught on one of the contacts, and stripped out the key,
isn't it possible that if it was in just the right position the spark
would fire continuously? Couldn't that cause enough heat to cause a
fire in the cap?
Farrar, did the engine die just shortly before the fire started? If it
continued to run for any time after you detected the fire then this
theory is bunk.
Maybe I'm wrong, but this seems plausible to me based on what I have
seen previously.
Tom
