RE: [DML] DeLorean Owners Association

This is an interesting topic, and since I am no longer an officer of the
DMA, I feel that I can now freely speak my personal opinion on it. I mean
no harm or discontent to the DOA, this is simply my thoughts on the topic.

I don't think a National (or global) Delorean car club is necessary. In the
past few years, many car clubs have sprouted and grown significantly based
on principals of operation that work best for them. The DMA has grown to a
rather large regional club, as have Arizona, Mid-west, Maryland, and several
other entities. Each of these "groups" functions in different ways of
membership cost, communication, number/size of events, event focus, benefits
to members, etc.

As for uniting everyone? I think Delorean Car Show provides a pretty damn
good venue for everyone to come together without having political issues of
a large organization. DCS08 is slated to be the largest gathering that has
ever occurred (to the limits of my personal knowledge). I am more then
happy to come to DCS and shake hands and hang out with owners who
participate in other groups/clubs. I think DCS offers a nice "neutral"
venue to the owners.

I don't think a central entity is required to represent the marquee. The
only benefit it offers is "bragging rights". If someone needs information
on Deloreans, let them find local shops, vendors, clubs, or individual
owners. Everyone is capable of representing the Marquee (although some may
disapprove of a non-stock car doing so, we wont dive into that subject here)

So what is my incentive to join the DOA? What would a national organization
offer to me that I don't already have access to? Magazines, technical
support, owner contact info, vendor discounts? I have no need for that.
There are many magazines being published already, and the internet offers
such a vast resource of information on the vehicle and way of contacting
other owners. Many of the smaller clubs have also negotiated deals and
discounts with several vendors in their local area.

Perhaps the DOA should regionalize to just the west coast as the DMA has
done to the northeast region and give up trying to be a "superpower"?
(again, not trying to slam it, just a concept that I think would work
better)

Just my 2 cents (Damn...needed that for gas money! LOL)
