[DML] High !dle 3000 RPM!

When I started my D on Saturday, the idle went to 3000 RPM and wouldn't come down.  Tapping on the accelerator didn't work, looking at the throttle with the air cleaner off everything appeared OK.  I couldn't find anything wrong that I could see on the engine.  The accelerator cable came all the way back to the idle position, still 3000-3500 RPM.  I had to drive it about 15 miles and it wasn't fun when I had to stop.  I resorted to shutting it off at lights.
 
Does anyone know what's wrong or what I might check to fix the problem?  The idle has always been fine with infrequent "hunting" for idle but that was only like 700-900 RPM and not often.
 
Whatever ideas you might have for me to look at, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!
