A totalitarian Maoist ownership community is but one possibility. Another is a community in which diversity is appreciated (not just tolerated), in which synergies between individual DeLoreans and their owners' particular interests and skills sets are celebrated. Such a possibility won't simply fall into our laps. It requires owners to be self examining and reflective. It requires them to do research and make evaluations. It requires the ability to say both "yes" and "no," and discernment to know when each is individually appropriate. Note that these sentiments do NOT portend a world populated with nothing but non-stock DeLoreans. For many people, the most satisfying ownership experience will deviate little from the car's original design (this is certainly the case for concours enthusiasts). If an owner knows his or her reality well enough to make an informed decision to keep a car stock -- great. That is NOT simply following a crowd. That is a particular ownership choice based upon examination and evaluation. BTW: Following a crowd is easy. Living the DeLorean dream in the context of one's individual reality requires much more effort. But it also is very rewarding. Simply following a crowd tends to be less satisfying in the long run.
