Just to add to what Hank stated. I also had the same type of thing
happen.
I replaced the connectors on the ballast resistors and had the
problem happen again. It turns out that in addition to the ballast
resistor connectors, I also had to replace the small connectors for
the wires on the coil located in the bulkhead. One of them was
partially melted and was causing a poor connection.
Other connectors to check are the main wiring harness connectors in
the bulkhead. Make sure they are clean and fully seated. I had
intermittent operation of the A/C compressor and found that the main
wiring harness connectors had some corrosion. Cleaning these
connectors solved the problem.
