[DML] 2613's air conditioning woes

Hi, gang.
One problem solved:
Fan speeds 3 & 4 once again work consistently. The original plan was
for me to remove the circuit breaker, take it to the local electronics
place, and say "I need this, except with a higher amp rating." When I
dug into the electrical compartment, however, I noticed that the
circuit breaker had been knocked loose from its clips and was sitting
underneath the fuse box -- no wonder it was overheating! I put it
back where it's supposed to be, and ran the fans on speed 4 all the
way to work this morning -- over half an hour and the fans never quit.
One problem not yet solved:
Beware of cheap a/c recharge kits. The "valve clip" that came with
mine was made of aluminum and didn't seat correctly on the top of the
can -- but I couldn't tell until I had pierced the can and coolant
started dripping out of the can while the low-side pressure port
vented itself through the friendly yellow hose. The clutch stopped
engaging entirely, from which I can glean that my system is now free
of refrigerant. It now seems like a perfect time to convert to
R-134a...
Cheers,
Farrar Hudkins
