[DML] Re: Carburetion Saves The Day -- Cold Start Valve (Elvis Nocita)

The majority of the DeLorean vendors are too buried in cars needing
attention right now to hover over the DML. That said, if I get the
gist of the original issue, an owner either had some work done in
the "Valley of Death", or did it himself. Shortly afterwards, he
started to experience this "warm start" issue. Is this a correct
synopsis? As somebody pointed out long ago, when a problem appears
suddenly, you should start to look at what was last done to the car
before the problem surfaced. When somebody is stirring around the
engine, removing the intake manifold, and various vacuum lines,
wires, and other ancilliaries, one can see a number of possibilities
of what could have gone wrong. I personally would test and verify
hot and cold function of the thermal control valve (102405), making
sure that the vacuum lines are correctly positioned and connected.
This valve controls vacuum to the CPR and the distributor, depending
on the temperature of the coolant in the distribution pipe.
Following that, I would test and verify the vacuum solenoid valve
(101116), and perform a fuel system pressure test (both hot and
cold). Also, the ground for the frequency valve can be forgotten,
which is a bad thing. However, my initial vote would be for the
102405. See DMC Service Bulletin ST-32-12/81 for related
information. All possible sources for vacuum leaks must also be
eliminated, including the idle speed motor tube O-ring into the
airflow housing. This is an often overlooked massive vacuum leak.
